Dr. Chastain has been an educator, counselor, lecturer, and professor for 40 years holding leadership positions in a variety of substance use disorder treatments for both adolescents and adults. In both settings, co-occurring disorders were frequent and varied. He has also been sober for 45 years.
Dr Chastain has given presentations on the Addiction Process; Pathways of Recovery; Grief Competency; Relapse Prevention; Prevention of Substance Use Disorders; Individualizing Recovery Programs; SUDs and Domestic Violence; Self-care; and the Intersection of Grief and Addiction. In addition, courses he has taught include Introduction to Psychology; Abnormal Psychology; Theories of Counseling; three courses he wrote: Grief, Loss, and Death; Substance Use, Addiction, and Behavior; and The Psychology of Families; Ethics; Families and Systems; Group Theory & Practice; Motivation; Social Problems; Theories of Personality; Interviewing; and AODA & Special Populations.
Dr. Chastain holds a PhD in Counseling, an MA in Addiction Studies, and held the Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor credential from Wisconsin (1994-2023).
