Supporting Diverse Learners In Continuing Education: How SDCCD’s Streamlined Onboarding With A Multilingual Online Orientation

CASE STUDY

San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) faced significant challenges in streamlining enrollment and onboarding for its diverse student body. Many of their students encountered barriers with language, technology, and scheduling, making it difficult to provide consistent, accessible onboarding through traditional methods. Faculty and staff also needed a way to free up time for more personalized educational planning while still ensuring that students received all essential orientation information.

To address these challenges, SDCCE partnered with Innovative Educators (IE) to implement a comprehensive online orientation platform. This solution offers students 24/7 access to orientation content in multiple languages, allowing them to engage with critical information on their own schedule. Filmed across multiple campuses, the orientation captures the diversity of SDCCE’s community and features the voices of students, staff, and the college president—reinforcing the institution’s commitment to empowering learners.

By adopting IE’s platform, SDCCE has not only improved accessibility and streamlined onboarding but also freed up counselors to focus on personalized support and educational planning. This shift ensures that students are better prepared to succeed from day one while benefiting from more meaningful interactions with staff.

One of the things that stood out for me is that we can offer it in different languages. That was huge for us because we have such a large ESL population.
