As colleges and universities continue to transform their response to incidents of sexual assault, stalking, and interpersonal violence, Title IX administrators and investigators are being asked to display a more advanced understanding of the nuance and skill required to perform quality investigations of Title IX-related reports. Investigation techniques used in traditional conduct situations or criminal investigations are not sufficient to unravel complicated reports often involving multiple parties and witnesses, issues of consent, the use of substances to obtain sex, and other elements of force. The impact of trauma on the participants and common misperceptions and bias around reporting sexual violence can add further complications.

Dr. Brian Van Brunt, past president of the American College Counseling Association, is Senior Vice President for Professional Development Programs at the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management (NHCERM, www.ncherm.org). He is the president of the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NaBITA, www.nabita.org) and the managing editor for Student Affairs eNews (SAeN, www.studentaffairsenews.com). Over the past fifteen years Brian has taught counseling theory, ethics, program evaluation, statistics and sociology topics at both public and private schools for both graduate and undergraduate students at five different colleges and universities. Brian has served as the Director of Counseling and Testing Center at New England College and Western Kentucky University. He is the author of several books including: Harm to Others: The Assessment and Treatment of Dangerousness, Ending Campus Violence: New Approaches in Prevention and A Faculty Guide to Addressing Disruptive and Dangerous Behavior in the Classroom. Brian is an expert on mental health and campus violence and has been interviewed by the New York Times, National Public Radio, LA Times, USA Today and has appeared on Headline News and Anderson Cooper 360.
Dr. Amy Murphy, serves as an Assistant Professor of Student Development and Higher Education Leadership at Angelo State University. She is formerly the Dean of Students and Managing Director of the Center for Campus Life at Texas Tech University. Her experiences include oversight of prevention and response activities for gender-based violence and discrimination as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students as well as experience as an investigator for discriminatory harassment complaints involving students, faculty, and staff. She was central in the review and revision of University and System policies related to Title IX, the development and expansion of comprehensive prevention programs, and the coordination of campus stakeholders to benefit Title IX efforts at the University. Dr. Murphy also served as chairperson for the Behavioral Intervention Team, and she spent more than 15 years involved in co-curricular and extracurricular student involvement and leadership activities, providing oversight and advisement to a system of more than 450 registered student organizations, including 50 inter/national fraternities and sororities. Dr. Murphy writes and presents on the requirements of the Violence Against Women Act and the strategic prevention of sexual violence, guidance for student affairs administrators on Title IX compliance, the management of at-risk student processes, and cultural change in fraternities and sororities including innovations in addressing organization misconduct.

What is an on-demand webinar and how do I get access?
An on-demand training is a previously recorded webinar available online for faculty and staff to access anytime, anywhere. You can register for on-demand trainings at any time. You typically receive a link to the recording and handouts within 24 hours of registration.
How long are the webinars?

When do I register?
You can register at any time, even the morning of the live event. If the live event has occurred, you can purchase the on-demand training (recording) of the session. You can register for on-demand trainings at any time.
What is the process for attending a live event?
The process is as follows:
- We email participants login instructions approximately 1 week prior to the live event.
- We email participants a link to the PowerPoint (.pdf) and any additional handouts approximately 1-2 days prior to the live event. Participants can make copies for attendees if desired.
- We give a courtesy reminder call the day before the live event.
- On the day of the live event, participants can login 30 minutes prior to the start time. Once logged in, participants can see the PowerPoint slides, ask questions, and make comments via the chat feature.
- We email participants a link to the recording the Monday following the live event.
Is there a recording available? And how long is the recording good for?
Approximately one week after the conclusion of the live webinar, participants will receive a link to the recording which can be forwarded to all faculty and staff for viewing anytime, anywhere. The recording is a campus access license and is available for one year from the date of the live event.
What are the technical requirements?

What equipment is required?
For individual or small group viewing, a computer with a reliable Internet connection and audio capabilities are all that’s needed. For large group presentations, we recommend a computer with a reliable Internet connection and speakers, as well as an LCD projector. Participants can call in via phone if they are having trouble retrieving the audio over the computer. Please be sure to reserve a meeting room prior to the live event that can accommodate these requirements as well as your attendees. You should reserve the room 30 minutes prior to the webinar start time and you may want to allow at least 15-30 minutes after the webinar for discussion.
