Returning To Campus: Redefining The Student Services Experience
On-Demand Training
Challenge - Redefining student services post-pandemic
Given the overall experience of the last 18 months, how do we successfully transition back to campus with a reframed perspective of our new normal and a balance of blended services, while recognizing the many stressors that may come with it?
Key Takeaway
In this webinar, we will discuss moving from mitigation to recovery as we transition back to being physically on-campus, along with the wealth of knowledge of what we have lost, gained, and learned from living through the pandemic.
Overview
Following a year and a half of forced virtual environments, the upcoming school year can be framed by a recovery mindset and the need for reality in transitioning to a new normal. Being physically on-campus will be a change for everyone and normal will look and feel differently. As we know, change can be tough. It may be a welcome change for some, but it will be unsettling for others. We will also have returning second-year students who won’t even know what it is like to be physically on campus, as they did not experience their “first-year” in the traditional way. So, how do we define the service experience in a way that makes sense and that takes the best of what we had with the best of what we learned during COVID.
A practical approach to returning to campus, remembering what we had and combining it with what we learned during the pandemic, while at the same time, preparing our staff and students for the new year in whatever way we may be defining a new normal. In this webinar, we will review the following:
- What does it mean to be going into a year of recovery?
- What did we learn by being virtual?
- What do we want to keep from the online experience? What worked well?
- What did we miss from the traditional service experience that we want to reinstate?
- How will we blend our services? And what does blended services look like?
- How are we helping people reframe into this new environment? What support will people (students & staff) need?
- Are we conscious of stress levels for students & staff? How will we know? How will we find out?
- How do we make sure that we do not create new stresses?
- How do we provide support services within the framework of a recovery mindset?
Objectives
- Utilize a recovery mindset framework for transitioning back to campus
- Consider what worked well and what didn’t in our service programming pre-pandemic
- Identify and describe what we learned from the pandemic experience on the delivery of programs and services
- Examine whom we reached and maybe whom we lost in the online environment.
- Consider how you might offer a blended service model moving forward
- Examine the many stressors that students & staff may feel in returning to campus and discuss ways to mitigate stress
- Discuss and explore options in the transitions of our staff pre, during, and post-pandemic
- Administration
- Enrollment Management
- Human Resources
- Student Services/Affairs
- Any educator interested in learning more about transitioning back to campus post-pandemic
“As we move from a year and a half of mitigation practices, pivoting, and reminding each other “you are muted”, this next year will be a combination of recovery, continued grace, and delivering our programs and services in a hybrid model while we continuously define our “new normal.”

Funding is a little tight, how many workshops can I get for $XX?
You can buy the entire StudentLingo package (50 workshops) or we offer several a la carte options. Unlike a lot of other software companies, we don’t charge per user, so we can work with any budget. We recommend talking to other departments on campus to increase your purchasing power and to share the cost. Also, we do have a pay model whereby students pay directly. If you are interested in learning more about this option, give us a call.
Is there an admin view?
This is a feature of our platform, but comes at an additional cost. With the admin view, you get access to more advanced reporting, and you have it in real time. With the standard membership, you get monthly reports.
How have other schools leveraged reporting?
- One of our partners, College of Southern Nevada, used StudentLingo to measure learning outcomes. in a study, one class had access to StudentLingo and the other cohort did not. 92% of the cohort with access to StudentLingo earned a whole letter grade higher than the cohort without StudentLingo.
- A lot of our partners use the data to justify funding for grants, operating dollars, or for new program development.
- The evaluation data is particularly useful in identifying what type of learning students prefer and the qualitative takeaways from viewing the workshop.
- Some of our partners use the data to connect with their student information system, like Banner or Peoplesoft.
- I think a great way to get started on how you want to use the data is to ask yourself some questions:
- How will I know if StudentLingo was successful?
- What do I hope students will gain from access to StudentLingo?
- What data is important for me to know in order to show that StudentLingo is a worthwhile purchase?
