7 Common Title IX Mistakes: How To Train Faculty On Sexual Harassment Compliance
This program will focus on seven common missteps in relation to Title IX and a critical campus constituency the faculty. Title IX and sexual violence on college and university campuses have gained heightened prominence since the release of the April 4, 2011 Dear Colleague Letter, coupled with heightened federal enforcement and recent federal legislation. Over the last few years, institutions have focused largely on updating and adjusting student-based policies, procedures, and trainings. Higher education has also dedicated time and resources to training the administrators and staff who uphold and implement these policies and procedures. The faculty component of Title IX is, however, key to compliance.
Faculty, like all employees and students at colleges and universities, are subject to Title IX, including training and reporting requirements and disciplinary policies and procedures. Daniel C. Swinton, J.D. Ed.D., is the Senior Executive Vice President of The NCHERM Group, LLC and Associate Executive Director of the Association for Title IX Administrators (ATIXA). Daniel is a frequent presenter and author on issues such as sexual misconduct on college campuses, legal issues in student affairs and higher education, student conduct policies and procedures, mediation, and behavioral intervention teams. Prior to his work with The NCHERM Group and ATIXA, he served as Assistant Dean and Director of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity at Vanderbilt University. He has also served on the Board for the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA), having served as its President in 2010-2011.
Daniel received his Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University, his law degree (J.D.) from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU and a doctorate (Ed.D.) in higher education leadership and policy from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. He is a member of the Tennessee State Bar. When do I register?
You can register at any time, even the morning of the live event. If the live event has occurred, you can purchase the on-demand training (recording) of the session. You can register for on-demand trainings at any time.
What is the process for attending a live event?
The process is as follows:
- We email participants login instructions approximately 1 week prior to the live event.
- We email participants a link to the PowerPoint (.pdf) and any additional handouts approximately 1-2 days prior to the live event. Participants can make copies for attendees if desired.
- We give a courtesy reminder call the day before the live event.
- On the day of the live event, participants can login 30 minutes prior to the start time. Once logged in, participants can see the PowerPoint slides, ask questions, and make comments via the chat feature.
- We email participants a link to the recording the Monday following the live event.
Is there a recording available? And how long is the recording good for?
Approximately one week after the conclusion of the live webinar, participants will receive a link to the recording which can be forwarded to all faculty and staff for viewing anytime, anywhere. The recording is a campus access license and is available for one year from the date of the live event.

Participants can call in via phone if they are having trouble retrieving the audio over the computer. Please be sure to reserve a meeting room prior to the live event that can accommodate these requirements as well as your attendees. You should reserve the room 30 minutes prior to the webinar start time and you may want to allow at least 15-30 minutes after the webinar for discussion.
