Denise Strohmayr is an Associate Professor in the Foundational Studies Division at Reading Area Community College. She has been teaching and supporting students in multiple higher education environments for over 20 years. She holds a B.A. in Speech Communication and an M.A. in Organizational Management. She is primarily responsible for teaching CSS103: College Success Strategies. In her current position, she also refines curriculum, provides support for adjunct faculty, and serves as a Faculty Advisor.
Denise’s contributions to the redesign of the CSS103, College Success Strategies won national recognition as a 2019 Innovation of the Year from the League of Innovation in Community Colleges. She has presented the course redesign and resulting 81% student success rate at several national conferences.
Denise was recently awarded the prestigious 2020 Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Recognition from the American Association of Community Colleges. This national award recognizes individuals who make a difference in the classroom by demonstrating passion and showing a willingness to support students inside and outside of the classroom. Denise serves on numerous committees including Faculty Senate, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Middle States Steering Committee.
She serves her passion for community volunteerism as a board member for the Literacy Council of Reading-Berks, Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, and the West Chester University Family Relations Board.
She lives in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania with her husband and is the proud mom of two college students.
