Flexible, Certified, Effective: How CCRI Modernized Tutor Training with TutorLingo
CASE STUDY
Like many colleges, the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) struggled to train a diverse team of tutors across four campuses while accommodating students’ busy schedules. Their traditional model—one in-person session followed by a reading packet—led to overload, low engagement, and tracking headaches. Tutor attrition, especially during the summer, was a recurring challenge.
To improve flexibility and consistency, CCRI adopted TutorLingo as the backbone of a new blended training program. The on-demand modules let tutors start learning right away, helping to keep new hires engaged before the semester began and easing the “tutor melt” problem.
TutorLingo’s modules also ensured that key topics like learning theory were delivered clearly and consistently. This allowed in-person time to shift toward hands-on practice, with tutors arriving better prepared and using shared language from the modules.
The flipped model deepened learning, and the built-in certificates made tutor progress easier to track—a major upgrade from spreadsheets. By anchoring training in TutorLingo, CCRI created a more adaptable and engaging system that strengthened both tutor development and program quality.
TutorLingo made it so simple for my tutors. It gave them a clear path, kept them engaged before training day, and allowed us to focus our in-person sessions on hands-on practice and real engagement, not just information overload.
