Participants will leave with strategies for adapting and expanding their current academic support services to meet the complex and dynamic needs of today’s students that are both fiscally responsible and creative.

This webinar will clearly outline how Gen Z students are distinct from all of the previous generations. As such, we as institutions need to be dynamic in how we support our students to meet their increasing and changing needs. We will also discuss how institutions are being relied upon more heavily to provide health and wellness interventions to students and how academic based centers can do their part to support students holistically. We will discuss the ever-present problem of expanding services with limited budgets and resources.

The landscape of higher education is changing. As tuition rates increase and admission rates at top tier institutions decrease, colleges and universities are being called upon to step-up and support students in a manner that was unheard of even a decade ago. Pair the changing landscape with a new generation of students our moral imperative is that we too, must adapt and develop new approaches to supporting the students that we have committed to educating.

Gen Z students are unlike any generation of students that we have seen. The advantages and struggles that this generation faces are incomparable to any of their predecessors. Financial concerns, food scarcity, and increasing mental health concerns all converge as a barrage of barriers during their college years. With all of these new challenges that our students face, learning centers must adjust their training and delivery methodologies to be prepared to support students in a manner that takes into account the holistic nature of their needs.

During this webinar, we will explore The Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity, which was designed to meet the learning and creativity needs of students that learn differently. The Kortschak Model, by design, can reach more of the general student body population’s growing needs.

The Kortschak Model delivers academic coaching and a variety of other academic support services and resources through the theoretical approaches of Occupational Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, Educational Counseling, Psychology and Public Administration, and Student Affairs. Due to the dynamic nature of these therapeutic approaches, the Kortschak Center is a robust Academic Support Center that can provide meaningful academic support interventions and services while remaining collaborative, although independent, with the Student Counseling Center on campus. At the Kortschak Center, the focus remains on academic support skill development with opportunities to delve into topics such as stress management, mindfulness, sleep hygiene, and self-care.

This webinar will outline the development of a multidisciplinary academic support center:

  • Structure and design of the center
  • Advantages of employing Occupational Therapy trainees in your center
  • On-going training curriculum
  • Resources and implementation of various topics in one-on-one and group settings
  • Working with students with ADHD and other learning differences
  • Assessment strategies for measuring impact of services
  • Engaging faculty to be better allies for students with disabilities
  • Identify how their institution or student body is altering what services they are asking for
  • Analyze resources available to them, from their campus and surrounding communities
  • Identify new potential resources and partnerships
  • Discuss ways to approach campus partners to implement pilot programs aligned with health and wellness initiatives on their campus
  • Explore the benefits of having occupational therapists in academic settings
  • Administration
  • Enrollment Management
  • Faculty
  • Student Services/Affairs
  • Disability Services
  • Academic Advising Departments
  • Any educator interested in learning more about Kortschak Model

Which workshops are your top rated?

We take quality seriously, and so all of our workshops are top notch in terms of content and look. However, if we know how you plan to use StudentLingo (FYE, Retention, Probation, TRIO, etc.), we can make workshop recommendations.

Funding is a little tight, how many workshops can I get for $XX?

You can buy the entire StudentLingo package (50 workshops) or we offer several a la carte options. Unlike a lot of other software companies, we don’t charge per user, so we can work with any budget. We recommend talking to other departments on campus to increase your purchasing power and to share the cost. Also, we do have a pay model whereby students pay directly. If you are interested in learning more about this option, give us a call.

Is there an admin view?

This is a feature of our platform, but comes at an additional cost. With the admin view, you get access to more advanced reporting, and you have it in real time. With the standard membership, you get monthly reports.

How have other schools leveraged reporting?
  • One of our partners, College of Southern Nevada, used StudentLingo to measure learning outcomes. in a study, one class had access to StudentLingo and the other cohort did not. 92% of the cohort with access to StudentLingo earned a whole letter grade higher than the cohort without StudentLingo.
  • A lot of our partners use the data to justify funding for grants, operating dollars, or for new program development.
  • The evaluation data is particularly useful in identifying what type of learning students prefer and the qualitative takeaways from viewing the workshop.
  • Some of our partners use the data to connect with their student information system, like Banner or Peoplesoft.
  • I think a great way to get started on how you want to use the data is to ask yourself some questions:
    1. How will I know if StudentLingo was successful?
    2. What do I hope students will gain from access to StudentLingo?
    3. What data is important for me to know in order to show that StudentLingo is a worthwhile purchase?
What is TutorLingo?

TutorLingo is a flexible tutor training plaform and can be purchased at the Bronze, Silver or Gold level to meet your training needs.  Every level consists of a series of 9 Core online training modules that prepare tutors by providing the basic skills necessary to support their peers in becoming more independent and strategic learners. Should the TutorLingo trainings be viewed in any particular order?

No, each training is a stand-alone workshop, and they can be viewed in any order.

Do you offer micro-credentialing for Tutoring Center staff?

Yes, we offer multiple micro-credentials which would serve Tutoring Center teams including Tutoring Center Administration, Mastering Service Excellence, Fostering A Culturally Responsive Campus Through Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Supervisory Leadership: Maximizing Productivity & Staff Development.
