“A solid personal financial education can reduce the barriers to academic achievement and persistence so many of our students face.  Students need advocates to educate them on how to manage money.”

                                                                ~ Danielle Champagne, Assistant Director
                                                                   Student Money Management Center
                                                                   University of North Texas

Overview

Students across the country are facing a rising dependence upon credit and escalating student loan debt to fund their educational goals without adequate knowledge, guidance, or education. Families, high schools, and degree programs do not address these issues and students often do not understand how to take control over their finances, and can fall victim to misinformation.

This webinar explores a financial literacy program based in student affairs that is effectively advancing the money management knowledge and expertise of students, and is supporting the education and retention of students by establishing a culture of financial empowerment and sustained student success throughout our campuses.

Objectives

Program participants will:

  • Understand the long-term impact and challenges of financial illiteracy facing students
  • Identify strategies and a project timeline to establish a student money management center
  • Identify funding strategies and opportunities to finance a comprehensive student money management center
  • Learn how to integrate an assessment model into the development and continuous improvement of financial literacy programs and services
  • Learn how to create a culture of financial empowerment among the student body
