University undergraduate students often communicate daily with their family members. Technology makes it easier than ever to call, text, email, Skype, Facebook, or tweet with regularity. Families come to the university setting with an expectation for frequent communication that is easy to access and understand. Keeping families “in the loop” with appropriate information can be a challenge. Prudent planning, collaboration, and constant assessment will give your office the value added necessary to provide a comprehensive network of support for students’ development, persistence, and ultimate success from matriculation to commencement.
Objectives
Participants will hear examples of communication tools that are available for today’s families. Guidance will be given about how to identify and address the needs of all constituents and which communication tools might be used to fulfill those needs.
