Over the past decade the SUNY College at Oneonta has utilized institutional assessment data to help drive an enrollment management initiative which has enjoyed considerable success. During a time when the aggregate growth in New York State high school graduates totaled approximately 12%, freshmen applications at SUNY Oneonta have grown over 95% (from 6,400 to 12,500). At the same time, the College’s acceptance rate decreased from almost 80% to 37% while freshmen to sophomore retention increased from 61% to 82%, with similar size growth in the College’s four, five, and six year graduation rates. Mean freshmen class high school averages have grown from 81.99% to 90.40% while mean combined SAT scores have increased 140 points, to 1137.
