College student retention continues to be a vexing problem for colleges and universities. Nearly half of all students who attend a college full time will not graduate within six years. This presentation will look at what we currently know about college student retention and what can be done to improve it. Participants will gain a general understanding of college student retention and how they can reduce attrition on their campus. The key goal is to help students meet their academic and personal goals.

Speakers

Dr. Alan Seidman is the Executive Director of the Center for the Study of College Student Retention (www.cscsr.org). The Center provides retention resources to individuals and educational institutions including the Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory & Practice which Dr. Seidman founded and edits. It is the only scholarly journal devoted exclusively to college student retention issues.  The Center also hosts a retention discussion group with over 1,000 members’ world wide, a retention reference list with over 1,400 retention references, slide shows, issues, affiliates and consulting services.

 

Dr. Seidman’s book, College student retention: Formula for student success, was published by ACE/Praeger Press in 2005 as was his book chapter, Minority student retention: Resources for practitioners in Minority retention: What works?  His second book, Minority student retention- the best of the Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory & Practice was published in 2007 by Baywood Publishing Company, Inc. Seidman has also published articles in scholarly journals in the area of retention and attrition, student services, enrollment management and has given presentations on these topics at local, state, regional, national and international conferences and presentations/workshops to college and university administrators, faculty and staff.  Dr. Seidman appeared on Fox News Live Weekend to talk about college student retention.

 

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Dr. Seidman is a member of the NH Judicial Council, appointed by the Governor of NH, confirmed by the Executive Council; Examiner, U.S. Department of Commerce Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA); grant reader for the U.S. Department of Education;  Alternate, State of New Hampshire Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, Internal Revenue Servie, U.S. Department of the Treasury, an Instructor Trainer, American Red Cross, and AARP Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program volunteer.

 

Dr. Seidman has over thirty years of experience in education as a college administrator, educational consultant and elementary school teacher. He earned his B.A. & M.A. from Glassboro State College (Rowan University), NJ and his Ed.D. from Syracuse University, NY.

How do I log on? 
You will receive detailed instructions approximately two weeks prior to the event.   It’s very simple to set up and we are here to help if you have questions.    You will receive a second reminder with a link to the handouts approximately 2-3 days prior to the event.

 

 

What is the cancellation policy?

All cancellations received prior to September 10, 2008, will be subject to a $75 processing fee.  No refunds will be given after September 10, 2008.  In case of webinar cancellation, Innovative Educators’ liability is limited to refund of the webinar registration.
