This webinar is designed to assist post-secondary learning center managers and aspiring learning center managers with the strategic planning, organization and integration of their learning centers on campus. Participants will learn how to assess their centers and compare their centers to centers at other institutions. Also, specific information on how to plan services, train staff and promote services will be provided. Finally, participants will be guided through the process of evaluating their own skills and their center to determine the next steps that they need to take in order to improve both.
Johanna Dvorak, PhD
Johanna Dvorak directs the academic support services program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). She has devoted her professional career to college learning assistance. She directs a comprehensive educational support program which includes peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, online academic support services and academic resources.
Dr. Dvorak has served as the President of the National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) in 2004 and was a mentor and presenter at NCLCA’s Institute for Learning Center Professionals in July 2009. A frequent presenter at conferences in the field, she is also active in the Association for the Tutoring Profession (ATP) and the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE).
A qualitative researcher, she authored, “The College Tutoring Experience” in The Learning Assistance Review (Fall 2001) and “Managing Tutoring Aspects of the Learning Assistance Center” in Research for Educational Reform (December 2004). Her research interests include learning assistance management, tutoring programs and services, and online academic support services.
Dr. Dvorak earned her PhD in Educational Leadership and Information Studies from UWM, her M.Ed. at University of Texas at Austin in Curriculum & Instruction and Library Science, and her B.A. in English at Drake University.
