Overview
Considerable attention has been paid in recent years to bullying in the workplace. Academia is not exempt from this problem and in fact has characteristics that make it even more susceptible. Many college and university personnel such as human resource specialists, supervisors, ombudsman, and other administrators (deans, directors, and department chairs) find responding to alleged or actual bullying behavior an extremely difficult challenge – especially when it involves colleagues who bully. This webinar will help participants recognize bullying, identify options to respond to it, and develop strategies for promoting a non-bullying climate.
Objectives
Participants will:
- Develop a greater awareness of incivility and bullying and its effects on individuals and the organization
- Learn strategies and skills for confronting bullies
- Come away with greater knowledge and skill in dealing with this difficult issue
- Identify a stakeholder group within academia who could benefit from an anti-bullying initiative and analyze the feasibility of implementing such an initiative
Who should attend?
College/University staff including human resource personnel, supervisors, ombudsman, and other administrators such as deans, directors and department chairs would benefit from this webinar since these personnel receive complaints about bullies and requests from targets for coaching on how to manage the problem. A staff or faculty member who perceives him or herself to be a target of a bully will also find this webinar helpful.
