Why are students less likely to participate in career and technical education (CTE) programs that are nontraditional for their gender? What barriers do they face? What strategies can we implement to eliminate those barriers and increase the participation of nontraditional students in  CTE programs? These questions and more will be answered during this two hour webinar. The nontraditional programs that will be discussed during this presentation are those that prepare students for nontraditional careers, those where one gender is underrepresented by 25% or less. The session will introduce you to the tools you need to increase the participation of students in nontraditional CTE programs.

Objectives

Participants will learn how to:

  1. Identify current nontraditional occupations for men and women
  2. Identify the nontraditional programs at their institution
  3. Understand the root causes for a lack of participation of underrepresented gender students in nontraditional career and technical education programs
  4. Identify effective strategies to combat the root causes and increase participation of students in nontraditional CTE.
