Short term study abroad is becoming essential to the academic journey that we encourage our students to undertake. Outsourcing, interdependence and world events are forcing Americans to have to proactively communicate with diverse groups of people, regardless of whether they intend to pursue a career beyond their local communities. As a result, teachers are eager to develop short term educational opportunities abroad. However, many educators are unsure of the essential resources and tasks involved in properly exploring this type of program development.  This webinar will provide a foundational toolbox to carry with you as you start down the path of short term study abroad program development.

Objectives

Participants will gain knowledge of key areas that must be considered when exploring short term program development.  Participants will have a general understanding of the legal, academic, logistical, cultural and safety challenges. Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be equipped with a foundational toolbox and be more confident when exploring short term study abroad program development.

The speaker's intention is to provide the participants with a complete "toolbox" of documents/web sites/possibly books/articles and any other relevant resources via an attachment that can go out just prior to the actual webinar. It will include the following:
  • Determining Location(s) & dates/budget and cost/length of stay/how many participants and leaders/application forms/marketing/vendors and related issues/insurance/developing the itinerary/pre-departure/ orientation/safety/emergencies/re-entry/evaluations/the "toolbox"

Who should attend?

  • Staff responsible for training study abroad leaders
  • Administrators who oversee study abroad programs
  • 2 and 4 year colleges
  • Community clubs/youth groups planning a trip abroad
  • High school teachers and administrators responsible for study abroad
  • Anyone who is interested in short study abroad program development, yet doesn't know where to start the journey

How do these on-demand trainings work?

1.  We will send you a link to the recording, which is good indefinitely.

2.  You can distribute this link to your entire faculty and staff via email.

3.  They can watch this presentation from any computer that has Internet and speakers.

How would I use it?

You can distribute the links any way you like.   Here are some ideas:

  • Distribute all links to faculty and staff so they can watch these presentations anytime, anywhere and have a discussion board for each topic
  • Distribute one link to all faculty and staff at the beginning of each month during the academic year and plan a discussion session at the end of each month for faculty and staff to get together and plan how they will implement the strategies presented
  • Plan a day and time to show each webinar in a large classroom and invite all faculty and staff to attend - debrief immediately following the presentation
  • Develop a professional development program around these topics with monthly themes and recognize the staff member that implements the best idea related to the theme
  • Utilize these topics to develop cross functional and cross discipline teams to foster collegiality
  • Utilize these presentations as part of your new employee training program
