This session will provide an overview of how two-year colleges in Arkansas recently developed common learning outcomes for student success courses. Intended to provide a forum for faculty from across the state to discuss the critical needs of students as they matriculate through their first year at a community college, this effort is making some important statements; most notably, that a consistent, high-impact pathway of success during the first year of college is more important than we ever knew.
In this webinar, we will review success courses from a national perspective, including highly ranked topics, goals, and objectives. We will also take a close look at survey results showing commonalities in student success course topics across the Arkansas community college population.
Participants will learn about the journey the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges and its member colleges embarked upon to identify students’ most common critical needs for success. The common learning outcomes for student success courses collectively identified by college faculty will be shared and discussed, as well as how institutions are using the outcomes to improve the consistency and impact of their student success courses. Finally, we will discuss the continuing professional development needs identified by faculty to support successful implementation of the learning outcomes.
