Dr. Brian Van Brunt, past president of the American College Counseling Association, is Senior Vice President for Professional Development Programs at the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management (NHCERM, www.ncherm.org). He is the president-elect of the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NaBITA, www.nabita.org), current president of the School and College Organization for Prevention Educators (SCOPE, www.wearescope.org) and the managing editor for Student Affairs eNews (SAeN, www.studentaffairsenews.com). Over the past thirteen years Brian has taught counseling theory, ethics, program evaluation, statistics and sociology topics at both public and private schools for both graduate and undergraduate students at five different colleges and universities. Brian has served as the director of counseling at New England College and Western Kentucky University. He is the author of several books including: Ending Campus Violence: New Approaches in Prevention and A Faculty Guide to Addressing Disruptive and Dangerous Behavior in the Classroom. Brian is an expert on campus violence and has been interviewed by the New York Times, National Pubic Radio, LA Times, USA Today and has appeared on Headline News and Anderson Cooper 360.
Dr. MJ Raleigh completed her master’s degree in counseling and therapy at the University of Colorado. MJ holds both a national counseling certification (NBCC) and is a licensed clinical professional counselor LCPC (MD) and LCMHC (NH). MJ completed her PhD at Antioch University New England. Her research focused on the use of natural restorative environments for the treatment of anxiety in college students. MJ has been a therapist specializing in college student development and mental health issues for over two decades. Currently MJ is the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a member of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) representing college mental health and past ACCA president.
