Overview:
Seldom does a day go by that we don’t read about the “crisis” of students entering college underprepared for college level work. The national narrative of students arriving to college underprepared has continuously been framed as a “crisis” with a focus on the number or percentage of students that begin their higher education journey in developmental education. A myriad of well-known national initiatives, such as Achieving the Dream, Developmental Education Initiative, and Completion by Design, have all focused on improving student outcomes. A review of the strategies has, in large part, been focused on accelerating students through developmental education to their first credit level course.

Embedded within the student success work of these initiatives, we see an emerging trend to focus on “redefining college readiness” and what it takes for students to be successful in college. The shift in this narrative includes strong partnerships with K-12 in order to better prepare students for college level work before they exit high school. This webinar will focus on how institutions can reduce the need for remediation/developmental studies through purposeful collaboration with K-12 to ensure that students exit high school ready for college-level work.
