Podcasting 101 – An Introduction To Their World

Pre-conference Workshop

November 6, 2007:  2:00–6:00pm

St. Julien Hotel and Spa
Boulder, CO

Paper-based registration form

Overview

Podcasting, downloaded files and white ear buds are as commonplace on today’s campuses as books and french fries. But can mobile technologies, such as the iPod, be more than an mp3 player? Can video and audio podcasts played on a laptop establish an environment of student engagement? Is there a new “social networking” concept that centers on production and distribution of podcast type materials? The real challenge for faculty and student support staff is to get beyond the stereotype of “a little boom box” and determine how the resources and tools used to produce and distribute podcast materials can bring students together to enhance the total educational experience. Throughout this half-day workshop, participants will be introduced to types of podcasts, hardware and software options, simple production and editing procedures for video and audio content, and distribution methods. Finally, participants will build a podcast and mount it on the “virtual refrigerator” (a podcast server).

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe types of podcasts
  • Describe the tools used to create materials
  • Build a basic Podcast

Who should attend?

All higher education academic and support staff.
