Overview:

As educators, we often hesitate to involve ourselves in the emotional lives of our students. Many of us think itís too messy and we fear it may be a Pandoraís box ó once it is opened, we may never get it closed again. When we think of student success, we may first think of tutoring, developmental courses, or reading and writing skills. While each of these skills is essential, a studentís emotional state is, in many ways, a very important precursor because it can affect one of the most influential and adaptable tools in their college success toolbox: their desire to succeed!

Join us to discover the relationships between attrition risk factors and non-cognitive barriers to success. Faculty and staff on your campus will explore the issues of self-efficacy, social capital, and locus of control. Participants will leave with practical strategies they can begin using immediately to help students develop emotional skills that lead to success.
